REVIEW: Ray Gorens Debut Album

Paige Miller, Reporter

Often, real talent gets lost in the mix of the formulaic world of popular music. Ray Goren’s debut album Songs For You should not be missed.

Ray Goren, who at 15 years old has been playing the guitar and piano, and writing music for eight year, has incredible musical talent and is taking advantage of it. His debut set of tracks Songs For You includes his four original songs: “Those Days”, “Down & Out”, “Song For Me”, and “It’s On You”. The album also includes a cover of The Doors’ iconic “Light My Fire”. These tracks all have a similar piano and guitar-driven rhythm, which gives Goren his unique character and style.

Songs For You was produced by Grammy Award-winning artist Steve Jordan. Jordan has worked with many great artists such Beyonce, John Mayer, Bob Dylan, Alicia Keys, and Kelly Clarkson.

Jordan commented about Goren: “I’ve worked with a ton of great and legendary musicians in my career and Ray is one of the most gifted artists I’ve ever witnessed. The fact that he is so good, at this age, just blows my mind. Between his guitar and piano playing, songwriting and singing, he is a special talent.”

The lead single, “Those Days” is a bouncing, piano-driven tune with influences of gospel, funk and 60’s soul and is about how Ray sees the world today. The lyrics center as a conversation about current events and the struggle between peace and strife.

Ray’s old school style will give an exciting future for him.
