Mother’s Day

Mothers’ Day is this upcoming Sunday and many students are scrambling to find the perfect gift for their mother.  Mothers’ Day is one of the most important holidays.  It is a day when people come together to celebrate and thank their mothers who raise and look after them, even during the most difficult of times.

“I think it’s important because we don’t understand how much our mothers actually have done for us throughout our lives,” said Junior Josh Harlow.

Freshman Kobe Richardson elaborates, “It’s the one day where we give back.  Our mothers are always doing things for us, and it’s rewarding  just to be  respectful and know that we’re giving back.  Usually my sister and I get our mom flowers and breakfast. She really appreciates it.”

It is nearly impossible to overestimate the importance of the mothers’ role in everyone’s life.

According to senior Taylor Pierce, “Most peoples’ moms have been there for them through everything that they go through.  Even if you don’t have a mom, but instead another kind of a motherly figure, their job is really important and you shouldn’t underestimate that.”

Though the day is often associated with giving tokens of appreciation, students do not need to feel that they are required to spend a great deal of money.  Homemade gifts can be just as touching. For example, some typical Mothers’ Day gestures are breakfast in bed, cards, and flowers.

“I currently don’t have a specific plan for Mothers’ Day, but my family makes breakfast and carries it up to our mom’s room on a tray,” explains Pierce.  “We’ll also put some cards and flowers on the tray.  She’s really grateful because it’s a day when she can just relax; and, it’s nice to treat her, because she’s usually the one who does all the work around the house.”

No matter what your plan is for this Sunday, make sure you take the time to recognize your mother for everything she does.
