For those who don’t know, our school librarian, Mr. Cadorette, has a Twitter page (@MrCadsTies), dedicated to his ties. This Twitter page has peaked the interest of many students and even people from a different country.

Mr. Cadorette’s  Tie page got an interesting direct message (DM) from another librarian from Shropshire, England (@ShropLibraries), which is in the middle of nowhere, according to Cadorette. The direct message was from a librarian named Ann Butler, asking who Cadorette was. Cadorette responded by telling Ann that he would tell her nothing unless she sent him English sweets.

Sure enough, a few days later, a package was delivered to our school from Butler. It was filled with Wine Gums, Jelly Babies, and Liquorice Allsorts, all candy that isn’t available here. The package also contained a tie that Cadorette promised he would wear, and even a little book about Shropshire.

After receiving the package, Cadorette thought it would be a good idea to put together a box of items from here that they cannot get in England. The package he sent contained Jif peanut butter, Fluff, Reese’s, maple syrup, some Waterford Lancer merchandise, a yearbook, a book about the history of Waterford, and First Selectmen Dan Steward even gave some medallions to put into the package.

Ever since that day, Mr. Cadorette and Ann have been sending messages back and forth to each other about what foods they should try out. For example, Cadorette told Butler how to make an Elvis sandwich, and she sent an article about marmite, a sticky, dark brown food paste with a distinctive, powerful flavor and salty, which is a big thing in England. Cadorette even sent out a book to her that he actually checked out to her with a side note that said it was on permanent loan to Shropshire.

Cadorette says that Butler savvy about using social media and that she’s a good sport even when he makes fun of things from England. The two have become such good friends over this Twitter account that Cadorette is going to England this summer and they are going to meet up.
