Snowball Cupcake Recipe

The cupcake is the perfect size for individual enjoyment. Originating from the late 1700s, this delicious treat is a crowd pleaser and there are endless flavor and decorating ideas.  These winter cupcakes are great to make at home with family or friends. They are simple and easy to make from scratch. Feel free to add any other ingredients for added flavor or special toppings to eat and enjoy.

Ingredients for the cupcake:

  • 1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1  teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/4 cups milk


Turn your oven to 375 degrees F

First, soften butter in the microwave for around 30 seconds. It is best for the butter not to be completely melted, so you are able to get a perfect texture for the batter. Next, beat butter in mixer at medium speed until smooth. I would beat the mixture until there are no lumps visible. Then, pour in sugar and beat, while adding the two eggs all in the same bowl. You should beat the batter for around two minutes after adding ingredients. Next, you need to add vanilla, baking powder, salt, flour, and milk. At this point, you should beat the batter until it’s smooth. By now it should contain little to no lumps. Lastly, pour into baking cups up to ⅔ full. You can then place the batter in a cupcake tin and then bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown. The recipe should produce 24 cupcakes in total, but it is possible it will produce less than the estimated amount.

Ingredients for frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened  
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


First, you should beat the butter until smooth. I prefer to mix it until there are no lumps visible. You then will continue beating the mixture while adding heavy cream and vanilla extract. Then, mix in the salt and powdered sugar until smooth and fluffy. Finally, leave the frosting in the refrigerator for 15 min to stiffen, or immediately begin frosting the cupcakes.
