Single Parents Day

Single Parents Day is known as the day to recognize all parents without partners.  President Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation recognizing this day on March 21, 1984.

Unfortunately, many parents nowadays are divorced rather than married. Numerous children know what it is like to go through life without their parents being together.

Junior Avery Collet said, “I think that because my dad never paid child support, which tied my mother down when it came to money. My sister was able to dance because her father paid my mother child support, but I was held back from all the expensive extracurricular activities because of his lack of being a father.”

Junior Lauren Hyder explained her father’s long days: “I think coming home late from work then having to cook dinner he also has back and neck problems which caused him to not be as engaged in me as he should. It is also hard to pay bills and raise two daughters alone.”

From the single parent perspective, Ms. Thibeau replied, “I think the main struggle is making time for yourself. If you do not make time for yourself, you have nothing to give your children. You cannot draw water from an empty well.”

Single Parents Day should be recognized because it is such a significant part of many people’s lives.
