With the commencement of the new year and construction of the new building in full swing, changes have already been seen throughout the school.
Select classrooms piloted new desks to see which ones will be of better use to students in the new, high-tech school.
Student reviews of the desks have come back positive.
“I really like how spacious they are; they allow you to use a textbook and paper at the same time whereas the older desks precluded that. I think they are excellent desks for the new school,” said senior Derek LaBrie about the desks that were in Mrs. Wile’s room.
Along with being spacious, the desks in Mrs. Wile’s room enhance safety within the classroom.
“The desks are pretty cool. I like how each has a backpack hook on the side. Now kids won’t be tripping over scattered backpacks on the floor,” said senior Olivia Kramer.
While the new stationary desks have received positive feedback, students have been raving about the “moveable desk.” in Mrs. Virtue and Mr. Sherman’s room.
“The moveable desks are better than the old desks because it’s easier to move around in and you have more space than a normal desk. What I like about the desks is that they make the working environment less enclosed and claustrophobic.” said senior Moriah Shafer.
The “moveable desks” also seem to benefit classes in other ways.
“I really like the new moveable desks because they break the barriers in normal classrooms. You are free to speak and wheel around! They are a great idea for classes based on discussion such as Contemporary Affairs. The wheels were definitely a smart move because they make less noise, make it easier to work with someone who is not near you, and they make sitting fun,” said senior Nicole Ager.
The new school is scheduled to be completed in February, 2013.
