Fourteen games into the season, Waterford has positioned itself to take over the ECC Medium title, and possibly a run at states. The team, led by Coach Greg Gwudz, believes they are more than capable of making this push.

In a recent interview, Coach Gwudz was asked what he thought of the team going into the later part of the season. He said, “We’ve beaten some teams we should beat. [Thursday’s game against New London] should be our first real test. I’d like to think we’ve gotten better but we’ve also got a lot more room to grow and improve before states.”

Gwudz added, “Our bench is pretty deep. During the start of the year when we had a few key seniors hurt, those young guys had to step up.”

Senior shooting guard Danny Martin also commented on the team’s midseason progress: “We’ve had a great season so far. Everyone’s been able to contribute and we’ve put together a nice winning streak. If we all keep playing like we know we can, we will be a real problem for other towns in states”.
