Winter Athletes Named to The Day’s All-Area Teams

This week, The New London Day named five WHS student athletes to its 2011 All-Area teams.

The award caps an impressive season for senior Liz Bashir, shot putter for the indoor track team.  Bashir earned first place this season at the Jack Long ECC Invitational, Bacon Academy Developmental, and the CIAC Class M Championships. She also placed first in the 20-lbs. weight throw at The Lindy Remigino Invitational.

Senior Davonta Valentine was named to the first team boys’ basketball. Valentine, the team’s top scorer with 15 PPG,  was also named to The All [Norwich] Bulletin, the All-ECC, and Class L State teams.

Junior Nolan Long earned second team boys’ basketball honors. Long average 13 PPG and was the team’s leader in blocked shots and rebounds.

Junior Adily Martucci and senior Jessica Ryder were named to the second team for girls’ basketball.
