Despite being seeded No. 14 in the state tournament for Class L, Waterford Softball went on to produce wins against higher-seeded teams. After winning against Bristol Eastern High School 19-7 in five innings due to the mercy rule, the girls traveled to Avon to beat them 14-4. For the quarterfinals, they traveled to East Lyme for a match-up against long-standing rivals and pulled out a 19-10 win. Their consistent production of solid defensive plays and tactical hits allowed them to reach semifinals. In the next round, they faced No.2 ranked New Milford. New Milford found a way to consistently hit through their lineup, and their sophomore pitcher produced a shut-out game. The girls ultimately fell to New Milford 12-0 in five innings to end their season. A young team, with six varsity freshmen, girls’ softball is looking forward to a strong 2027 season.
