On the Waterfront is a New London restaurant located on Pequot Ave that offers tasty options and a view of the Thames River.
As you arrive, parking is limited and the parking lot is quite far away. Luckily, they have a golf cart that drives up the steep street to the lot in order to pick up customers to make it more convenient and enjoyable.
My experience on the golf cart was delightful. The driver was personable and held great conversation.
When I arrived at the lobby of the restaurant, the host was efficient and sat my party and I on the enclosed, outdoor deck.Â
The deck was amazing. It is comfortably heated to accommodate the cool riverside breeze, it had multiple TVs with sports games to watch, and it had a direct view of the Thames River—considering the deck is basically on top of the Thames.
The service was delightful. Our server was attentive and consistently checking in on my party. People were constantly making rounds, refilling water and bringing more bread and garlic butter, which was a delicious appetizer. The bread was soft and the garlic butter had fresh minced garlic.
The menu is various with many options to choose from: seafood, steak, chicken, salads, and a various number of pasta dishes.
For 32 dollars, I chose the stuffed pork tenderloin, which consisted of a lightly breaded tenderloin, stuffed with prosciutto and swiss cheese; topped with an arugula salad with cherry tomatoes and a balsamic reduction, all served over mashed potatoes.
I also ordered a side Caesar salad, which conveniently came out first, so I had something to eat while waiting for my entree.
The entree was delicious. The tenderloin was juicy and the saltiness from the prosciutto paired well with the sourness of the balsamic reduction. The fresh arugula salad added the lightness that the dish needed due to the heaviness of the stuffed tenderloin and thick, creamy mashed potatoes.
While my party and I were eating out main courses, the service remained attentive and checked in multiple times.
After our dinners, our waitress offered three options for dessert: a slice of chocolate cake, a slice of pistachio cake, and tiramisu. Our party all chose different desserts, but I decided on the tiramisu.
The tiramisu was delightful. It was light with an amazing espresso flavor and creamy mascarpone filling.
I also tried a bite of the pistachio cake which had a strong pistachio flavor and was filled with a layer of Bavarian cream.
On the Waterfront is on the pricier side of affordable, but the food and experience is absolutely worth it. In total my drink, side salad, entree, and dessert were about 50 dollars, excluding tip.
Overall, my experience at On the Waterfront was fulfilling, and I will absolutely be back.
