One Direction just released a new album and according to Rolling Stone, “1D are [also] racing for the exit – after announcing a split”.

Made in the A.M., though is still vying for the top spot on the Billboard 200 against Justin Bieber’s Purpose and Adele’s 25.

The album’s first dropped track “Drag Me Down” flew up the charts to Number One so quickly on several lists, including iTunes. Fans were ecstatic that the band still had its sound, though still slightly different, after ex-member Zayn Malik left.

The album is no longer about teenage angst, but about making a lasting effort to leave its  stamp on the world after they take its leave, saying thank you to fans for the memories.

The new album also has a more mature sound. In the song, “If I Could Fly”, the sixth musical track, they use musical devices such as phrasing and harmonies between the boys to really make their sound explode. Especially during this piano driven ballad, “I can feel your heart inside of mine/ I feel it, I feel it/ I’m going out of my mind/ I feel it, I feel it/Know that I’m just wasting time/ And I/ Hope that you don’t run from me” (Styles). 1D has never taken this much musical concern into their music, which in turn, now brings out the seasoned sense in the music.

And after all of this commotion over the album, one cannot be too sure that the band is actually hanging it up, because Niall, Harry, Liam, and Louis are still riding the high of past albums such as Midnight Memories and Four. “Hey Angel” is the perfect anthem to start the album. The song starts out with a bittersweet symphony, but quickly changes into a grungy and upbeat feeling. When Harry begins the song there are already chills going down your spine.

“End of the Day”, the fifth track, will surprise listeners when the song rapidly changes into a percussion driven beat. This song is all about no matter what happens, at the end of day it is done and over with. This is a nice song to help the band close out their fifth studio album.
