Apple’s “Time Flies” Event

Mack Jackson, Reporter

Amidst the seasonal hecticness of back to school, along with a not-so-seasonal global pandemic, Apple engineers have been creating new products and services to not only help with working and learning from home but also to help you lose the quarantine 15. Starting with an updated lineup of their flagship tablets, the aptly named “New iPad” boasts a number of internal upgrades. The new A12 Bionic chip is 2x faster than the previous model, allowing for heavier multitasking, and better performance when photo editing or playing intense games. This new model is great for those on a budget, or for children who only need a basic set of features as it starts at $329, or $299 with the education discount.

The all-new iPad Air 4 offers a radical redesign while including pro features at a mid-range price. Introducing the new rounded corners, squared-off edges, and thin bezels, this new tablet brings another iPad into the modern era of Apple design. With a new A14 chip, editing videos and doing heavy multitasking becomes a breeze, yet all this new power also brings more energy efficiency. Meaning you can now get more out of your iPad’s battery in one charge. Yet the best part isn’t actually inside of it, in addition to the usual colors of Silver, Space Grey, and Rose Gold, there are 2 brand new colors, Green and Sky Blue. This new iPad Air is great for somebody who needs more power, but it is priced starting at $599, and $549 with the education discount.

Along with more education and creativity based devices, Apple unveiled two new Apple Watches. The first is their flagship model, the Series 6. The key features of this upgrade include a blood oximetry sensor, a brighter always-on display, and two brand new colors, Blue and Product Red. Available in October, it will be starting at $399. A new budget model was also announced, dupped the Apple Watch “SE” features all the same features as the Series 6 except for the Always-On Display, an ECG, and Blood Oximetry Sensor. This model will be starting at $279 and is available now. To round off the new Watches, a new service was also announced that could help us all lose those quarantine pounds, Apple Fitness+ offers “World-class workouts by the world’s top trainers”. With workouts planned to be added each week, you can work out how you want, when you want, where you want. All you need is an Apple Watch Series 3 or later, and an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV, and you can workout to pre-recorded videos with many different classes of exercise. Launching later this year, the service will cost $9.99 a month, or $79.99 a year.
