Picture this: you’re walking between a row of shops in a cute, local village and suddenly you smell the sweet aroma of coffee, as you come upon a modest pastry shop. Your mouth starts to water and you decide to walk in. As you pull open the door your eyes are immediately pulled towards the display of beautifully crafted donuts and cookies. There is a vast menu of a variety of drinks and pastries. You have taken your pick and as soon as you take a bite your eyes close as the bliss of sugary goodness seeps into your being. I know what you’re thinking: how could such a magical place exist? However we assure you it most definitely does. Introducing Deviant Donuts!
Found in Old Mystic Village, this beautiful pastry shop has a large following for good reason. Here are some of the items we tried, which we think make the trip worthwhile:
Chocolate Cake Donut
This isn’t your average supermarket pastry. This donut is a masterclass in fusion, acting as the perfect bridge between a classic Boston Creme and a gourmet dessert. Coated in a sleek, glossy chocolate frosting, the donut features a generous dollop of cookie dough filling right in the center. The richness of the chocolate glaze pairs beautifully with the creamy, nostalgic flavor of the cookie dough. It’s a dense, satisfying bite that manages to be both crunchy and smooth.
Triple Chocolate Cookie:
For the true cocoa enthusiast, the Triple Chocolate Cookie is a must order. Deep, dark, and rustic, this cookie boasts a classic “warm and crunchy” profile. The exterior offers a slight snap that gives way to a decadent, cocoa infused interior. It is an intense chocolate experience. The “triple” aspect is evident in every bite, providing a complex sweetness that isn’t overbearing but definitely hits the spot for any sweet tooth.

Lavender Lemonade:
To balance out the rich, sugary profiles of the baked goods, the Lavender Lemonade is the ideal companion. Served in a clear, transparent cup with a classic straw, the drink features a beautiful, light purple hue that looks as refreshing as it tastes. It’s crisp, iced, and floral. The lavender provides a sophisticated aromatic quality that cuts through the richness of a chocolate treat, leaving your taste buds refreshed for the next bite.
Honey Lavender Cookie:
If you are looking for a sweet, flavorful treat then the Honey Lavender Cookie is the dessert for you! This large, dark tan cookie is served with a smooth glaze and sprinkle of herbs on top. At first glance its hard exterior may appear difficult to eat. However, in reality, this cookie contains a soft, malleable center that consists of a pretty, lavender color. With the perfect consistency of a rich, yet sweet flavor profile it was by far my favorite dessert Deviant Donut offered. The satisfying crunch paired with a smooth, gooey center was absolute cookie perfection and I would most definitely recommend it.
Blueberry Cake Donut:
This masterful spin on a blueberry donut is a must have. Although it may appear as your average donut with a clear glaze on top, this dessert is nothing short of spectacular. Its

cakey, almost muffin-like texture, smooth glaze, and fun blueberry chunks made for a treat like no other! The chunks of blueberry in the middle make for a nice pop of flavor while the donut itself practically melted in my mouth, leaving me and my taste buds feeling sufficiently satisfied. This donut is for anyone looking for something refreshing with just the right amount of sweetness.
Hazelnut Latte:
Anyone who is in need of a pick me up in the form of a comforting coffee, but is looking for something more refined absolutely must try Deviant Donut’s Hazelnut Latte. The Hazelnut Latte came is the normal cardboard cup that usually accompanies coffee. I ordered mine warm, although there was the option to order it with ice. Overall, when I first received it there was nothing extraordinary to note. However, the taste makes for an entirely different argument. This latte was a flawless combination of the warm, sharpness of coffee and nutty taste of hazelnut, leaving me craving more of its impeccable balance between sweet and bitter. It was a beautifully made latte that I believe every coffee lover should try.
In all, the “Deviant” experience is capped off by its practical yet clean presentation. Our order came to $26.52, and arrived in sturdy, white takeout containers, ensuring that the delicate frostings and glazes stayed perfectly intact from the counter to the outdoor seating area.
Whether you’re a fan of traditional fillings or looking for a “deviant” twist on a classic cookie, this shop offers a high quality, indulgent break from the every day.
