Cowlicks Creamery is my undisputed favorite ice cream destination, primarily because they refuse to play it safe with their menu. I love the uniqueness of the flavor combinations. They offer inventive profiles you won’t find at a standard chain, complemented by a massive array of toppings that allow for total customization like the lowest price on ice cream is 8 to 11 dollars no matter the size.
| The environment is remarkably family friendly, designed more like a community hangout than a quick-service shop. The outdoor area features a mini boat that acts as a magnet for kids, while the scattered lawn chairs in the back provide a perfect spot for adults to decompress.

However, this backyard”charm comes with a logistical gamble. With only three indoor tables and one long bench, the shop is poorly equipped for inclement weather. If it’s raining or cold, you’re often stuck shivering in line, as the indoor capacity is nearly non-existent. The experience requires both a financial and time investment.
The premium pricing can be a bit of a shock, especially for larger groups, making it more of a special occasion treat than a casual afternoon snack. You should also prepare for a wait because there are usually only 2–3 employees working the in, the queue moves slowly. On busy weekend nights, the wait to order and receive your scoop can be super big or medium size because they do not do little scoops like if you ask for one small scoop you get one huge scoop. Despite the high cost and the inevitable lines, the quality of the creamery remains top tier. Just be sure to check the weather forecast before you head out.
