Benefits from Pilates and Yoga to Improve Your Overall Well Being

Being healthy is a goal of many students whether it is their mental or physical health. Students work on their own healthy habits including, what they eat, their physical exercise, and what they do to mentally take care of themselves. Pilates and yoga are a popular resort to target not only people’s physical abilities but also their mental state. Comparing pilates and yoga to strength training in a regular gym; the calm setting and difference in levels provides many benefits to those who partake in such activities.

Strength training is known to be forms of exercise typically using weights to help build and tone more muscles. This can very easily be harmful to people completing these exercises because of the use of improper technique and guidance. Going into strength training completely oblivious can harm you and could potentially cause long term issues to your body.

Yoga and pilates on the other hand are mind-body exercises to help you become your best self with less rising issues of improper technique issues. Yoga is a simpler form of exercise that focuses on improving breathing, increasing flexibility, and relaxing your mind. Exercises include  simple and slow movements to stretch and tone your body, this can help prevent injuries, reduce stress, and improve sleep, balance, and flexibility.

Experts from Johns Hopkins find many benefits with doing just a sixty minute yoga session as often as you can. Especially with women it was found to improve their overall health and chronic pain many women experience through menstruation periods of their life. For all people yoga can help prevent oncology, osteopenia, arthritis, and overall balance issues. Enjoying a yoga class once or twice a week could prevent your body from seriously harmful illnesses and help you be your healthier self. Another benefit from yoga that should convince you to take a class is how this can help you have healthier hearts. Exercises in yoga can help reduce stress and body-wide inflammation. Not only is yoga beneficial to your body’s stress and overall well being you can burn close to 200-600 calories from a sixty minute session.

Pilates being another mind-body exercise helps focus more on improving your physical strength and tone your body, giving you more control over your movements and strength. Pilates is much more advanced and different than yoga, using a reformer to help tone and strengthen your body. Many take classes to learn how to properly use the machines and see what is most beneficial for themselves. Having this starter step for pilates helps ensure that there is no improper technique being used. As levels are increased many begin to use weights and higher resistance.

Houston’s Leading Medicine company found pilates to be a very simple exercise which you can complete with simply a yoga mat or towel. Even without completing challenging exercises you can help resolve tension and pain in your shoulders and legs that people can endure during long periods of sitting at desks. Adults and students experience bad posture from sitting for long periods during the day. Pilates can help strengthen back and core muscles to build a better posture for yourself. Stepping away from strength training can prevent overworking your muscles in the same way you are used to during your daily workouts. Doing simple exercises you could burn from 120-140 calories per pilates workout, when challenging yourself to add resistance you could burn over 300 calories in only 30 minutes.

Adding yoga and pilates into your life more often can help you have better sleep schedules and be more productive the next day, as well as reduce stress. Which are the two biggest components to a better mental health and mindset. Both can add increasingly positive effects even on top of strength training. Mind-body exercises focus on increasing balance, flexibility, and body awareness. Being able to control yourself better can help with increasing your physical strength on all levels. These exercises can help prevent and heal previous injuries, bringing your physical health to a new positive point in life.

A great way to start your new path to improve your overall health is attending Positive Vibes Pilates where students and family members can attend a beginners pilates class. This is located right around the corner from the high school allowing easy access to all. Positive Vibes Pilates has a free trial class where you can sign up to try and see if pilates is for you.
