It was the start of a new era of Lancer football with a new quarterback, Chase Nolda, and Head Coach Hill Gbumblee Jr. For the first game against Sheehan, the first quarter started out rough. The Lancers were down 12-0 heading into the second quarter. There was a fumble, leading to a Sheehan touchdown.
Later on in the second quarter, Nolda threw his first career touchdown pass to Parker Spencer before the half.
Coming out of the half, there was another touchdown pass to Spencer, leaving the Lancers down 14-26. Right after that, Sheehan scored another touchdown, making the deficit 20 points. On the next drive Spencer ended with a rushing touchdown making the final score 20-34.
Nolda showed a lot of promise in his first game of his varsity career. Throwing two touchdowns, he showed he has the accuracy needed. He showed great composure when the team was down 20 points; he kept leading the team to great drives deep in the opponent’s territory, not quitting on his team. Nolda has work to do with ball control as he threw a pick and fumbled. Even after turning the ball over twice, he kept his calm and kept trying to lead his team to a victory. Even though the team lost, they showed a lot of promise for this season.
Last year, Sheehan went to the semifinals and lost, so they were a formidable first opponent.
