Final Quarter Begins for Class of 2013

Final+Quarter+Begins+for+Class+of+2013

As students returned from spring vacation on April 8th, there were many events to look forward to. The first day back marked the first day in the new building, as well as the first day of the fourth quarter. For the Class of 2013, this return from break marked the official start of its final quarter as a Lancer.

Brittney Wilkinson said, “Entering the last quarter of my senior year is bittersweet. I have had some amazing memories with some unforgettable people.”

Students have various plans for their futures after high school. According to a yearbook study, 74% of the senior class will be attending a four-year college in the fall, 11% will be attending a two-year college, 9% will be entering the workforce, and 6% will be enlisting in the military. Kimberly Neto will be attending the University of Connecticut at Avery Point this fall.

Neto said, “Entering the last quarter of my senior year is frightening and exciting all at the same time. Graduating and going to college is going to be exciting because I’m going to meet so many new people and start working towards my goal of becoming an OB-GYN.”

Students have already been fitted for their caps and gowns at the graduation ceremony, making an impression of the home-stretch for the school year. However, students must finish their last two months at Waterford, with many of them taking AP tests and competing in athletics or extracurriculars.

Despite excitement over a new chapter in life, Neto is concerned over the new challenges she will face, saying, “Change is scary. Waterford High was the last step before entering the real world. Now I am going to have to learn to be independent.”

Jordan Waterworth is not only finishing his time here, but finishing his time in the town altogether. Waterworth said, “I moved here as freshman, not only new to high school, but new to Waterford. And now, after four years of building so many friendships here, it’s crazy to think in few months we’ll all go our separate ways and have do it all over again.”

Wilkinson added, “I am ready to start a new chapter of my life but at the same time it feels like time is just flying by. I’m excited to see what the future will bring.”
