Summer Jobs

After many months of hard work, the entire school is looking forward to relaxing over the summer vacation.  Having extra time on their hands without schoolwork or extra curricular activities, many students have begun looking for summer jobs.

Students who seek part-time jobs, especially seniors who may be going away to college next year, want to have a little extra cash in their pockets.

Those students who are unsure where to begin when searching for a job should simply walk in to local stores and ask if they are hiring.  There are also online resources that advertise which businesses are hiring nearby.

“I’ve been working at the Waterford pool as a monitor since October,” says junior Kirsten Staller.  “But my position is going to continue into the summer. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get a few more hours.  I also applied to other places online for a second job.  My friend told me that a catering company was looking for help serving, so I applied there.  I’m hoping to save up some money to go to Rome next year.”

Not only is have a job economically beneficial, but it can also be a learning experience.  This experience looks good on future applications, as well.

Staller explains, “I have learned how to deal with people when they’re unruly and how to be firm with people when they don’t want to follow the rules.”

Jobs teach customer service and how to work as part of a team, and the summer is the perfect time to get one.
