Looking Up

Everyone has someone whom they admire or want to be when they get older. It was discovered that there is a wide variety of idols and heroes that students look up to. Though these students love their idol, they have mixed feelings about whether they would like to actually be them.

When asked who her idol was, junior Elin Holmoey Nilsen said, “My idol is my best friend, Lone, because she’s one of those people who never complains, always smiles, is constantly kind to people, and she’s beautiful.”

On the other hand, when asked if she would like to be her idol if she got the chance Nilsen replied, “No, I wouldn’t because I enjoy being her friend. I can’t enjoy her personality if I’m her.”

While Nilsen chose to have her best friend as her idol, Sydney Tabor chose the Hollywood route.

“My idol is Jennifer Lawrence because she does all the campaigning for girls who aren’t comfortable with their bodies and she talks about her experiences as a teenager and I find it very inspiring,” Tabor said when asked who her idol was.

Tabor would choose to be her idol, if she had the chance: “Yeah why not? It’d be pretty cool to be famous for a day and to be well-loved. And, her sense of style is amazing. I’d love her sense of style for a day.”

Freshman Genevine Kilgore chose the fictional side of heroes and idols. “My idol is Emilia Justina from ‘The Devil Is A Part Timer,” which is a famous anime about angels and demons, “Because she focuses on helping others and saving the world from evil and she’s super strong. She’s an angel. Who doesn’t want to be an angel?”

Kilgore also has no problem being her idol if she got the chance, exclaiming, “Yes, like oh my god, yes. I would want to be her because she’s really cool, really smart, and she’s pretty.”

Idols are someone to look up to in life. Though students may love them and want to be like them, they don’t always want to be them. Many students like being themselves while admiring the achievements of their idols and hoping to emulate them.
