Mr. Lancer Pageant

The first Mr. Lancer pageant was organized by student council last year and they are continuing the tradition. On Friday, February 27 the long awaited question of who would be the next Mr. Lancer was answered. Senior Isaiah Jones was handed the crown by the first Mr. Lancer, Rob Vose, who graduated last year, and the crowd went wild. Before the winner was announced, “ISAIAH” was chanted by a section of the audience, and his fans went head to head with fans of another contestant, Mike Capozza.

Both the student council and the contestants put in a lot of hard work in preparation for the pageant, which included a talent portion, dancing portion, and a Q&A with the judges.

A few days before the pageant, Senior Matthew Shea said, “I’m thrilled, it’s a great competition with a great group of guys.”

The group practiced dancing every Tuesday and Thursday after school until 3:00. Junior Dylan Vitale said, “ We practiced the dances every rehearsal, it was a lot of hard work, but it was also laid back.”

Seniors Jackie Pinkham and Erika Gavino choreographed the dances. Senior Jackie Pinkham said, “It was very entertaining to teach the boys and girls the dances. I had a blast.”

The MCs of the pageant were seniors Hannah Schonenberg, Nick McCarthy, and Catherine Ward, and all members of Student Council. Senior Hannah Schonenberg commented on the event: “It was nerve wracking but really fun. I love interacting with the audience, they’re very vocal.”

The five judges included English teacher Mrs. Collins, Principal Mr. Hauser, Assistant Principal Ms. Moger, health teacher Mrs. Baumgartner, and music teacher Mr. Fioravanti. Mrs. Baumgartner said, “It was very hard to be a judge. These are great kids with so much talent. Tonight I saw a different side of them from when I taught them.”

Mrs. Woznicki and Mrs. Prpich helped the Student Council put on a fabulous show. With another fun-filled night, this year didn’t fail to top last year.

“We had such a great success with the first one, we figured why not!” Mrs. Woznicki said at the end of the night. So, who will be the third Mr. Lancer? We shall see next year.
