Many Lancer students participate in sports at Waterford, and those activities are well known and publicized in newspapers and on websites. There is plenty to do after school, however, outside of sports. What is often overlooked are the numerous clubs that the school offers.
Waterford has multiple clubs that cater to a person’s diverse interests. Whether someone is interested in science, art, games, debate, etc, WHS has a club for everyone.
Here is a list of several offerings:
Model United Nations
If you are interested in learning about world affairs, this is a club for you. Several students meet weekly at the library to engage in international discussion and diplomatic relations that are daily topical issues at the United Nations in New York City. The club promotes members to engage in research and position papers. The highlight of club attendance is a four-day field trip to Yale University for the college’s renowned annual Model UN conference that draws professors and international delegates.
Cultural Diversity Alliance
Meets after school every Tuesday, room 305. Where different cultures can spread awareness to WHS about their different beliefs, lifestyles and ethnicity. A few of the student leaders are Camila Diaz Castillo, Noran Arnout, Marlena Childs, Chloe Saad and Angela Hawthrone. Ms. Cronin, who is affiliated with the club and is also a Spanish teacher says, “I love that students can spend time learning about their culture. It’s cool hearing people speaking their own language and seeing students of color getting to know each other.” CDA also collaborates with Waterford Rise, a community of social equity for everyone to feel respected and valued.
FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America)
Meets every other Monday, room 304. A great club for students with a desire to learn about business and/or may want to pursue a field in business. Students get the opportunity to organize and operate the school store and raise funds for local charities. The faculty advisor is Ms. Woznicki, and the student leaders are Samantha Kung & Priya Pantha. The club has had 3-13 students in previous years, FBLA would love for more to join.
Honor Societies
There is multiple honor societies offered at WHS. Ranging from the three main languages, (Spanish, French, and Latin), to art, science, and the National Honor Society. A club for students who have demonstrated outstanding effort in their academics.
National Art Honors Society meets 1st and 3rd Tuesdays 2:15-3:30, in room 223. It’s a community for passionate artists driven to display their arts to the school. The faculty advisors are Ms. Lally, Ms. Provo-Parker, and Ms. Bono. To join, students must have 8 hours of community service related to arts each year. NAHS inspires students and artistic ability, making school a place for creativity and passion.
National Spanish Honor Society meets in room 204, typically on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. Students interested can apply and must meet certain requirements. NSHS works on Spanish related projects for the school, for example they recently had a Pinata making contest. Ms. Cano and Ms. Marchese are the advisors.
French Honor Society meets variously in room 206. The advisor is Ms. Shea. A few of the student leaders are Titus Barricklow, Sawyer Kempke, Alex Seltzer, and Madison Goldstein. An organization for students who have maintained great grades throughout the school year. FHS has previously had challenges and crafts related to the subject.
The Junior Classical League meets occasionally on Tuesdays in room 207. A special nomination for those who have excelled in Latin. The club participates in bake sales, volunteering, and challenges. Members seek to spread knowledge of Latin to the community.
Science Honor Society meets on the first Monday of the month in room 329. Selected students are juniors and seniors who have a profound interest in science and have shown great work ethic. The club encourages students to contribute to the community. Participating in leadership roles related to science and recognizes students’ dedication.
Lancer Leadership Council
A club where students can use leadership skills to help out with school events and fundraisers. LLC has committees throughout the year for specific events such as, spirit seek, pep rallies, and school dances. The advisors are Mrs. Prpich, Mrs. Baumgartner, Ms. Bono, Mrs. Woznicki, Mrs. Ramos, and Mrs. Cronin. There are multiple leadership positions that fit different students’ preferences. A junior Chloe Saad says, “My favorite thing about the club is that you can sign up for leadership positions if you like, and they consider your input. The club shows what it takes to represent the school and how to work together to make it a better place.” Whether it’s being a senior executive director or simply participating in committees, LLC is a great way to contribute to Waterford and the community.
Medical & Science Careers Club
Meets variously in room 329. The faculty advisor is Ms. Herr. Provides students an insight into the many career paths in the medical and science field. Students get the opportunity to meet with speakers who are professionals and learn about their specific job, allowing students to have a better knowledge on their future career goals.
The Lancelot
Unlike the rest of the clubs, The Lancelot is a class you can take during the school day, instead of staying after school. A full-year class where students can write stories involving the school for the school website and magazine. Members gain important writing, editing and interviewing skills. It’s an invaluable experience for those interested in pursuing a career in journalism or communications. An interesting perk about The Lancelot is that it counts as an extracurricular, despite being a class. Making it great for students who are busy after school and want to boost their list of clubs.
Landscaping & Gardening Club
Those inclined to having a green thumb can take part in activities to beautify the school grounds. It’s a great way to get hand’s-on experience caring for plants, and gaining knowledge and respect of the environment as well.

Dance Club
The club has become an institution at Waterford, still going strong since its inception in the 1960s. There are fall and winter sessions at the Community Center weekly. No experience is necessary for those who want to have fun with dance. Members train for a special performance in the auditorium in March.
Roundtable Theatre meets regularly to train actors, musicians and set crews with the goal of presenting a first-class theater production in front of spectators in the auditorium. The club is wrapping up its Irish tragicomedy play of “Juno and the Paycock”. A spring musical will be announced.
