With summer on the way, people’s stereotypical bucket lists consist of going to the beach; shopping; and of course, a vacation. But what about the staycations? The ones where you can sit down, grab a bowl of your favorite snack, and watch ideas come to life. It’s the perfect and relaxing reset that we all need. Before summer arrives, let’s explore the must-watches of the students of Waterford High School.
Laura Mrruku is a student at Waterford High School who loves watching films, making her the perfect person to dive into the subject of perfect binge watches.
“I like to watch shows in particular, specifically horror, mystery, action, stuff like that. All the romance shows I’ve seen are like ahhh and kinda sus. I want to watch I Know What You Did Last Summer because I’ve watched the first one, which came out last summer, and now I get to watch the second with my friends. For a show, I would say I want to pick up on watching Dexter. I started watching it but then had to stop because of the SATs.”
Mrruku also has opinions on the best environment for viewing: “I’d definitely rather watch it in a theater. There’s popcorn, friends, and candy. Overall, it’s just a better experience in my opinion.”
“I think that summer is a pretty good time to watch movies, if you’re tired of the heat and going outside, you can relax in the movie theater, and I feel like the movies are always super cold so it’s a nice change of pace compared to the heat outside.”
Orion Parrott, another junior at Waterford High School, has a different opinion on the summer watches.
“I prefer mostly animated films, a lot of romance, it really depends, but it’s got to be intriguing. Some action too. But yeah, romance anime are some of my favorites.” He continued, “I look forward to watching magazine dreams. It’s about a bodybuilder and the actor looks like he did a superb job. Honestly, he alone makes me want to watch it. And I also want to watch good will hunting because I saw it and it looked very interesting.”
As said, Parrott’s summer watch list consists of Magazine Dreams, and Good Will Hunting. So, if Connecticut weather acts knowingly unpredictable, and it ends up raining, giving these two drama films a watch may be a good change of pace from the normal running and activities that summer brings.
Anabella Bryant also likes animation.
“I could watch A Silent Voice a million times, it’s an amazing movie and I loved the animation,” she continues with, “I mostly watch animated movies, and I really love romance. I prefer to watch movies at my house because I have a short attention span and need to take a break. Plus, I love talking when I watch them.”
Bryant gives a realistic view of an at home entertainment vs theater experience. Having a chit chat between friends during a movie is much more welcoming at home rather than a theater. It can be a more enjoyable experience for some, rather than the typical theater.
If you’re looking for something to watch this summer, hopefully these recommendations will provide some interest. Admittedly, summer isn’t the stereotypical time to watch a movie, but as said, a reset day is sometimes what we need. A break from the common activities that come with summer are necessary, and a new show, or movie, may be something you can look forward to for the following months approaching.
