It can be frustrating when it seems like everyone you know is going away somewhere tropical for spring break, leaving you at home with the same boring tasks. However, spring break doesn’t have to consist of you sitting alone at home all day seething over pictures of other people getting tan at the beach. Here are five things you can do to make your spring break relaxing and fun:

  1. Go on a day trip. Day trips are a lot less expensive than regular vacations and are just as fun. Hop in a car or take the train and explore New York, Rhode Island, or even Massachusetts. This will give you a chance to go new places and experience new things. Discover New England website has many ideas on things to do, including outlet shopping (see #3).
  2. Hang out with your friends. This one may be difficult depending on whether or not your friends are on vacation. However, if that’s the case, it also gives you a chance to meet new people or reconnect with old friends. Suggest going to see a movie or bowling.
  3. Shopping. Who doesn’t love going to the store and coming back with a huge shopping haul? Take  day (or two) to hit the stores and shop ‘till you drop! Make sure to spend sometime looking at flyers and preparing coupons so you can spend as little money as possible. It is also a good idea to look online at sale items or discounts. Saving money and being able to get a lot of nice things will make you feel good and productive. Websites like RetailMeNot have tons of offers so check them out or download its app to your smartphone.
  4. Chill. While this suggestion does not include going out, sometimes it can be relaxing to stay at home for a day. Take a day to rejuvenate yourself after all the hard work you’ve done at school. Surround yourself with pillows, blankets, and of course snacks, then turn on that Netflix show you’ve been wanting to watch, but haven’t had time for. 5. Organize and Prepare. Take a day to organize your room and backpack before school starts again. This way, getting back into the swing of things will be much easier and it will help you be prepared to finish up the school year strong. Buy new pencils, notebooks, or folders so that you feel fresh and ready to learn.
